Christmas folklore with the ORIGINAL BOLSCHOI DON KOSAKEN!
This Christmas season, the popular male choir of the Bolshoi Don Cossacks brings a piece of Eastern European music history to Berlin. The trained opera soloists come from a wide variety of countries and have been using their songs to promote international understanding in a musical way for decades.The basis of the repertoire consists of sacred chants, Cossack, Russian and Ukrainian folk songs. From the softest pianissimo to the loudest forte, the artists make precise use not only of their chorales but also of their emotions. Petja Houdjakov has conducted the choir for 40 years and has traveled the world with the musicians. At Christmas time, the Don Cossacks' program is enriched with festive songs. In addition to songs such as "Evening Bell", "Volga-Volga" and "Red Saffron", traditional Christmas melodies are also performed. With a bit of luck, the audience will be treated to an operatic aria or two in between. The singers are accompanied by the balalaika, a typical Russian plucked instrument, and the harmonica "Aleksandra".
