Music theater after Luigi Nono & Peter Weiss
The "Büro für nicht übertragbare Angelegenheiten" aka KGI explores the limits of understanding and the unconscious. Inspired by Luigi Nono's musical works and Peter Weiss' dramatized oratorio of the Auschwitz trial "The Investigation", this production disrupts the familiar narratives of history and irritates established concepts of past and present, guilt and coming to terms with the past.
Luigi Nono created music by electronically distorting historical documents and researched an artistic transformation of the incomprehensible; Peter Weiss developed his haunting and groundbreaking documentary play from transcripts of the first Auschwitz trial: both attempts to rescue things for which there is no language from the sphere of silence.
DIE VERWICKLUNG takes up Nono's musical and medial way of presentation. Based on this, hundreds of the original testimonies are acoustically condensed into a musical oratorio that attempts to track down the unsaid, the undocumented and to let us viewers look into the gaps.
Remembering and commemorating is not the same as remembering what happened. But can a new expression be found for what lies unprocessed in the gaps between memorial plaques, documentation and speeches on anniversaries?
