A play by Rudolf Schmid for children aged 6-10.
Our play "A Journey into Prehistory", produced in 2005, met with exceptionally great interest from the audience. The play is about evolution. In one short scene, the first prehistoric humans are shown chasing a mammoth. Children of primary school age seem to be particularly fascinated by the topic of prehistoric man. So we came up with the idea of making a whole play about prehistoric people.
We are interested in how prehistoric people managed to survive in an environment in which we modern humans could barely exist. What was life like in the caves? How did they cope with hunger, cold and disease? How did they feed themselves? We are fascinated by the manual creativity of prehistoric man: how he repeatedly created new tools out of necessity, such as the idea of the needle, the knife or making fire. And finally, we are interested in the spiritual world of prehistoric man, religious beliefs, shamanistic practices and initiation rituals.
