Nothing is as it was before. Nastassja Martin encounters a bear on a research trip on the Kamchatka Peninsula. A fight ensues. Both survive seriously injured. She falls into a state of damaged identity. When she feels better, she returns to the wilderness to come to terms with the event by engaging with the local culture of the Evens.
The French author and anthropologist is not a nature mystic, but a poetic scientist. Her reflections take us to the edges of our existence, to transition zones and intermediate worlds. Nastassja Martin wants to believe in the wild without glorifying it. She succeeds in creating an emotional and rational, unsparing and linguistically brilliant text that will stay with you for a long time.
